Boss woman

So, I’ve realized i’m great at planning for the short term, there’s a lot to be said for living in the now, yes, but if i want to work for myself i must make a plan.

There’s certain things that university didn’t teach me (i’m thinking of doing a post on this of its own.. another story) things like what its like in the  big, complex world of self employment and taxes.

I want to work for myself, i know that much. I knew this much a few months ago, now i know exactly what i want. And i think i can do it.

I wanted, at first, to run my own studio, maybe live there too, but i don’t want to be a general studio, i want to be a portrait studio. And realistically, i’ll have to already be rolling in it for that to work out as my only income. Then i realised studios arent the only line of work photographers can go into, basically, i want to open a shop/gallery/creative workshop space, selling local artists work, crafts, artwork, photography etc. Display and sell my own work and run workshops and studio sessions. (maybe natural light studio sessions..) I feel this is a way to showcase/delve into my other passions of photography and the creative world. I adore the physical elements of photography much more than constantly sitting on Photoshop, analog, recycled negatives, turning your prints into things other than prints.

Real art. Substance.

That’s what i want to be known for.

I’ve been looking at commercial spaces, gaining a larger library of portraits and getting advice from local businesses etc.

my natural light portrait shoot went so well it’s gathered attention from 5 or so other models who want to work with me, so i’m starting a little portrait business from my home studio, a series of shoots every week, a choice of travel costs covered or a Polaroid for £5 and all images free to use wherever with credit.

Its going really well, i have high hopes for the future 🙂

Portraits for self confidence

Photoshoots to soothe the soul

after a bit of creative block, i invited my friend over for some tea, kitten cuddles and some natural light portraits.

(you can see the full set on instagram @_perfectlycandid)

I love natural light images. these havent been edited apart from light contrast alteration to ensure they’re all evenly lit when seen next to each other. (apart from the back and white one obviously) Scroll to see the images.

I’ve interested a few more girls to have more shoots like this in the coming weeks, it’s a great way to boost confidence and allows you to love your natural beauty.

50mm 1.2, natural light only.

Model: Emily Hannah

Necklace: Agharta Jewellery

Self portrait shoot

I was feeling inspired earlier, partly by the wonderful new pale blonde wig i bought, and ive set up a little daylight studio in the bedroom so i had a mini self portrait shoot.

used a 50mm 1.2 lens, daylight mimic bulbs, i used the awesome app that connects my phone to my camera to get it just right too.

I found this awesome artist too who inspired me to do something like these again, more test shoots with self portraits to come before my proper shoot on the 30th with my lovely model friend Emily

synonyms: purist, stickler for perfection.

As its my day off I’m cleaning for My mum, preparing dinner and staring blankly at my photography website nursing a cup of tea and thinking.. everything needs to change. Being like this is a burden sometimes.

Anyway, I’ve vamped it up and it looks better, I’ve made it so i HAVE to update it now and then which makes me feel like it isn’t and doesn’t need to be, ever, finished.

This makes me happy! So, have a look 🙂

P.s, anyone reading this, have you ever hired a market stall for your small business? im thinking of hiring an open market stall for a day, to sell prints, books and frames, and generally promote myself. Let me know 🙂

time spent with friends

During the time spent waiting for my University grades to be released, me and a few of my closest friends house sitted and spent some time with animals, nice food and vodka. Was nice to relax for the final time before leaving education.

I hardly posted while at university, it was all too busy considering i skipped first year, but i graduated with a second class honours degree in commercial photography and, as you know, i’m now working as a retoucher. It all paid off!

As always, more photos here!

catching up

I’ve been so busy ive hardly had time to catch my breath, with my illness getting worse im finding it hard to stick to things i originally wanted – but my blog wont suffer, i promised myself.

Ive graduated from uni, well, not officially, the ceremony is on the 14th, im excited but also want to have it over with. I wish my attitude was different but being utterly skint has become the norm and i want that to change asap! I have a promising job interview in the next or so 🙂 we shall see.

Ive been vamping up my site, im using it as an extension to my CV, its: and its the only thing thats consistent in my life at the moment.

I  have a referral to see a rheumatologist (should probably learn how to spell that) and he/she  is going to give me a firmer diagnosis, im pretty excited about it to be honest, finally get some secure help and proper advice – you know a nurse told me to ‘have a bath‘ instead of prescribing me the pain meds i desperately need? a fucking bath?

any way, with all the stress of moving out of my student house -(FYI, SO happy to no longer be a student, not happy to miss out on all the discount, but oh am i glad) cancelling bills, paying surprise fee’s, you know – grown up stuff. I suddenly remember that all the worries can temporarily go away while my camera is in my hand.

to whoever is reading (hi, and thankyou) but remember theres more interesting stuff on its way, reasons:

  1. i recently discovered Lush = hauls, reviews & photos of me smelling stuff
  2. i started an online shop to sell prints so ill be shamelessly plugging my work via wordpress
  3. alot of stuff is happening in my adult life, ill be complaining or celebrating, either way, itl be entertaining.
